A pair of perfect 100/100 performances from the Philips RacingVision GT200 and X-tremeVision Pro150 in each of their respective categories has seen a clean sweep victory for the Philips pair in the 2024 Auto Express Headlamp Bulb Mega Test.
This is a truly unprecedented performance in the UK’s number one test of headlamp bulbs.
Last year, when, for the first time, Auto Express covered two bulb categories, Philips products took the coveted “Best Buy” award in both: Philips Xenon X-tremeVision gen2 took the award for that year’s HID Xenon group, while Philips RacingVision GT200 scooped victory in the Halogen test group, for the second year in a row.
This year, RacingVision GT200 completed a hat-trick of victories – something never before achieved by the same type of bulb – while X-tremeVision Pro150 took the H1 honours, the first time this type of bulb had been part of the Auto Express annual test.
Philips RacingVision GT200 awarded once again
Philips RacingVision GT200 has won multiple awards across Europe since its launch in 2020. With this third consecutive victory in the Auto Express Bulb Test, the magazine’s current Headlamp Bulb of the Year can lay a strong claim to be the best performing Halogen Headlamp Bulb ever produced.
The Philips product was the first bulb rated at up to +200% brightness[1] when it launched in 2020. At the time, it raised the bar for halogen lighting and still, some four years later, it is in every respect the standard by which others are judged.
The RacingVision GT200’s high luminance filament and unique coating on the glass are the key factors in its performance.
As with all Philips bulbs, RacingVision GT200 is produced to extremely high standards, with precision welding and precise filament alignment. In addition, the RacingVision GT200 also features Diamond Precision Quartz-glass technology, with its increased translucency, for a brighter light on the road. This also helps protect the headlamp optic from UV damage and gives increased pressure and shock resistance properties.
“Best Buy” status is the first such award for the Philips Xenon X-tremeVision ProRO150
Philips X-tremeVision Pro150 has always fared well in bulb tests. The ”Best Buy” recommendation is the first such award for the Philips bulb, which dominated this test, taking a maximum score in every one of Auto Express’ areas of assessment – and by a notable margin.
Lke the RacingVision GT200, the Philips X-tremeVision Pro150, which offers up to 150% more brightness compared to the industry standard bulb also features advanced filament design for greater precision and luminance, to give better illumination of the road. The bulb has Diamond Precision quartz-glass technology, as well, to ensure more brightness.
The production technique for Philips Diamond Precision quartz glass increases light throughput, as well as providing greater resistance to thermal shock and pressure. A tailor-made composition of precious gases further protects the filament from wear. This adds up to more brightness and a longer lifespan of up to 450 hours[2] – probably the longest from such a powerful bulb.
“The technology behind both of the winning Philips Bulbs is aimed at making sure they deliver a safer and more comfortable driving experience for drivers and other road users. “ enthuses Lumileds UK and Eire Country Manager, Richard Armstrong. “And, what can we say about Philips RacingVision GT200 that hasn’t already been said? Once again, this truly amazing bulb proves itself to be the class of the field.”
