Legendary motor racing venue, Donington Park, played host to Convoy in the Park, featuring five rounds of the BTRC. Newell qualified fifth on the grid for race one on Saturday and finished fifth. Saturday’s second race saw Newell climb to finish fourth overall in his 1200-horsepower MAN TGS.
Three truck races were held on Sunday, with Newell carving his way through the field to take a stunning second place finish. A broken suspension spring caused an untimely end to Newell’s second race on Sunday while challenging for the race lead – but Newell recovered in the final race of the weekend from seventh on the grid to finish fourth overall.
John Newell, ambassador for Textar and racing driver at Newell and Wright Motorsport said: “All in all a solid weekend for us. Despite the retirement in the second race on Sunday, we’re happy with the results we’ve taken here, particularly the second place, which gives us great momentum as we look ahead to the next race at Snetterton.
“Donington is one of the fastest circuits we race at during the season, so it can be difficult to overtake as mistakes from drivers in front are rare.”
Textar welcomed customers to the circuit for the Convoy in the Park event, who were able to visit the Newell and Wright Motorsport paddock area and get up close to John Newell’s racing truck and use Textar’s hospitality suite to spectate the thrilling on-track action.
Newell’s high-end racing truck is fitted with Textar’s road-going brakes, which provide intense stopping power even on the race track. Turn one, Cascades, and the tight Roberts chicane at the end of the lap come after long straights, providing overtaking opportunities to those who can brake the latest – with Newell benefitting from his Textar equipment to push for position at these bends.
Other on-track action at Convoy in the Park included the Praga Cup, Junior Saloon Car Championship, and Pickup Truck Racing Championship. Off track, the event hosted stunt driving, drifting and show truck displays.
The next round of the BTRC takes place at Norfolk racing circuit Snetterton from 17th-18th September.
By fitting Textar braking products, the Newell & Wright Motorsport race truck has the perfect combination of superior braking performance, long service life and low disc wear.
Fleet operators can find Textar’s latest brake disc range via Brakebook, the brand’s online catalogue. This virtual platform allows users to search for multiple part numbers, create their own personalised catalogue and offers weekly updates.
