More EV Owners Turn To BookMyGarage To Meet Aftersales Needs

Retail bookings for fully electric vehicles (EVs) via the BookMyGarage platform more than doubled in 2025 with EV booking share increasing further in the first quarter of 2026.

Data from the UK’s leading comparison site for MOTs, servicing and repairs, revealed appointments for electric vehicles were up by 105% in 2025 compared to 2024. In 2023, EV bookings increased by 112% compared to 2022 whilst in 2024 the leap over the year before was a massive 136%.

As a proportion of total bookings on the platform, electric vehicles continue to gain ground. In 2022, EV bookings accounted for 0.4%; by 2023, the figure had risen to 0.7%; in 2024 – 1.5%; and last year these vehicles accounted for 1.9% of all bookings.

In the first quarter of 2026, the proportion of EV bookings were even higher making up 2.95% of the total on the platform. EV bookings more than doubled (+110.3%) in this period compared to Q1 25 and performed well against overall bookings, themselves up by almost a half (+45.5%). In this time, EV share on the platform increased from 2.04% by +0.91%.

Last year the independent sector took nine out of ten BookMyGarage EV bookings. In the first quarter of 2025, independent garages continued to take the lion share of EV bookings accounting for 2% across the platform which rose again to almost 3% for the same period in 2026.

Chief operating officer Toby Hughes said: “Our figures are testament to the independent sector’s determination to meet motorists’ evolving needs and garage owners’ recognition that the EV private ownership balance is tipping. We see this as a positive endorsement of EV ownership, especially in the used market where we would typically expect our bookings to be sourced, as well as proof that EV servicing demand is out there.

“We are confident that the EV aftersales market will continue to make inroads on our platform as motorists explore different methods of meeting their ownership requirements and as the used market develops.”

Data from across the sector has shown an increase in EV ownership interest since the start of the Iran conflict and the corresponding price hikes at the fuel pump. Renault revealed EV enquiries had leapt 24%, enquiries for EV leasing were up 36% for Octopus Electric Vehicles, and Autotrader’s data saw leads leap 28% for new EVs and 15% for used EVs in less than a month (source: The Independent).

Figures from Autotrader’s latest Monthly Market Intelligence report, showed March was particularly strong for used car transactions for EVs up 54% YoY translating to just under 1 in 10 sales, the highest share on record.

The number of garage partners able to facilitate EV aftersales provision also continues to grow. When surveyed last year*, more than half (56%) of BookMyGarage independent partners who responded employed an EV qualified technician, and 14% planned to this year. More than a third (36%), which had the ability to meet EV requirements, reported an increase in demand in 2025.

Across the board, just under 2 in 5 (41.9%) live independent garages currently have electric vehicle bookings enabled on at least one of their active price lists on the platform. When franchised workshops are incorporated, EV enabled outlets make up just over half (51.49%) of all businesses on the platform.

Hughes added: “Franchised workshops are in the minority on our platform, but the figures show the network is pulling the overall percentage up, with a likely higher rate of EV enablement than Independents. So, whilst the independent sector is embracing EVs, when considering our trend for increased EV bookings, there is more business to be had for the franchised network too.”
