In less than four months, Hillcrest Motor Services has completed more than 33 hours of training, averaging half an hour a day. Celebrating the accomplishment, Delphi presented garage owner Ivo Civicchioni with a Certificate of Outstanding Achievement and a voucher for further training.
“Ivo has fully embraced e-learning and has significantly broadened his understanding when it comes to new vehicle technologies, so we’re really pleased to visit his workshop and celebrate his thirst for knowledge,” said Philip Mitchell, European Workshop Solutions Manager at Delphi Technologies.
Delphi Academy hosts more than 200 learning modules, presented in a user-friendly format with multi-media learning methods including interactive technical articles, videos and simulators for all levels of ability.
Hybrid and electric vehicle e-learning content has been a particular favourite at Hillcrest. Ivo’s sight is now set on achieving IMI qualifications, with hybrid and electric vehicle levels 1,2,3 and 4 training courses also available from Delphi.
“We’re getting a few electric and hybrid cars coming in for MOTs now and being able to recognise the components and understand the fundamentals gives us that confidence to have them in the workshop,” said Ivo.
Ivo has also enjoyed “going back to basics” on the e-learning platform with modules such as steering, suspension and braking. Training has long been a priority for Hillcrest Motor Services since opening the shutters for the first time in 1994 following a move from South Africa.
“It’s interesting to look at how these systems are developing, especially when it comes to Advanced Driver Assistance Systems,” said Ivo. “Change is something you have to get used to and if you don’t want to train, then it’s probably time to give-up.
“I’ve been to lots of classroom courses over the years but, the trouble is, they can be quite expensive. That’s why digital training has been such a revelation for us.
“You’ve just got to be dedicated, make the time and effort to complete the courses. I’ve clocked up a lot of hours because when I get going, I really do find it interesting. I can sit down thinking I’ll do an hour and sometimes I end up doing five.”
Delphi continues to add new content to the e-learning platform on a monthly basis, with the latest additions highlighted on the Academy home page. Exciting plans are also in the pipeline to further develop interactive content and to introduce new business training modules for garage owners too.
