The first two-day course is taking place 2–3 October at GSF Car Parts in Widnes, Cheshire, followed by sessions at The Tool Connection in Southam, Warwickshire on 26–27 November. The popular two-day course mixes theory with practical sessions, with technicians who successfully complete the course then able to perform VW double clutch system repairs.
“Our REPXPERT 2CT training course gives technicians the knowledge needed to confidently tackle these repairs,” said Alistair Mason, Technical Services Manager at Schaeffler REPXPERT, “ensuring that no garage has to turn away this highly profitable work.”
Double clutch transmissions consist of two clutches, arranged on two drive shafts in a gearbox housing. Each sub-transmission functions like a manual transmission, with its own clutch. While driving, all gear changes are automatically controlled, with one of the two clutches operating the odd-numbered gears, while the other controls the even-numbers and reverse.
“A growing number of independent garages have been turning away 2CT jobs because they worry about getting it wrong,” said Alistair, “but this is the solution.”
Day one of the IMI-approved course puts the focus on VW dry clutch systems before moving onto VW wet clutch systems on day two. Training covers clutch and mechatronics removal, gearbox disassembly, repairs solutions and reassembly, mechatronic repairs and common issues, before concluding with clutch operation, installation and set-up.
Schaeffler REPXPERT had already announced 2CT training sessions at the South Devon College Skills Academy in Newton Abbot on 16–17 July.
