Delphi names latest ‘Master of the Month’

Delphi has named Sam Harris its latest ‘Master of the Month’, his prizes include a selection of branded merchandise and a trip to Enstone, for an Alpine Formula 1 factory tour in January.

‘Master of the Month’ is open to any garage with an active Delphi Academy e-learning licence who completes a technical challenge. It runs until the end of the year, helping Delphi drive awareness of its new Masters of Motion resource hub.

Having completed his apprenticeship at Volkswagen, later specialising in bodywork, Sam started his business in 2017. Sam Harris Automotive in Folkstone now has three ramps, a paint booth and a car sales lot with six other employed staff.

“I progressed into mechanical work employing a master technician and it just grew,” said Sam. “We’re currently booked up ‘til mid-January for bodywork – and we’ve got 3 weeks of mechanical work too.

“Correct diagnosis is one of the biggest challenges. You need the right tools and knowledge to make sure you’re starting at the right place eliminating potential faults rather than wasting time and money.”

Sam says Delphi’s Masters of Motion ‘How To’ videos have proved ‘valuable’. He’s also been using the e-learning since mid-2023 – completing over twenty hours so far, with eight hours in the last month alone.

“It’s really good; the content and skill levels are varied,” said Sam. “On the complex modules, I like knowing that I can go back to get a better understanding.

“Rather than watching TV, I’ll do a module and then when I have a vehicle with something that I’ve learned I’ll refresh the module whilst I’m working on the car.

“That’s especially the case with DPF faults. I’m always going back through the DPF module to confirm what I need to do during the diagnostic process.”

Sam says the time-savings for him, with the consequent cost-savings for customers, make skills development essential investment, saying: “You have to be efficient with time, especially when you’re busy.”
