IAAF Nominee Praises Technology and Guidance for Success

2023 IAAF nominee Britannia MOT & Repair Centre, based in Aylesford, claims their success is due to the use of industry guidance, training, and diagnostic repair support.

As a general repair garage, the business provides vehicle maintenance and repair services for all vehicle brands and models. With a variety of complex repairs coming through the doors, the team requires an arsenal of support to ensure that no job is turned away and that customers receive affordable high-quality services.

“There’s very little we turn away. We service all makes – anything that comes through the doors. We know that affordability, high quality, and a quick turnaround increase our customer satisfaction, and we strive to achieve this.” Explains Mick Bentley, Britannia MOT Owner.

“We often use Opus IVS for its diagnostic repair support” explains Mick. “When we request support, they are very quick to come back to us, and as a result, we can get faults repaired quickly. We also utilise their RAP and Remote Services for those more complex repairs, or those programming and coding jobs we want to retain in-house – we simply let them remote in and take care of the repair for us”.

Britannia recently used RAP for the coding of an air suspension control unit. “The air suspension on our customer’s BMW 520D M Sport was inoperable. Throwing up fault codes (480DA5 etc). We replaced the suspension ride height control unit, but it required coding.

The Opus team dialled in remotely and carried this out for us. The job was completed, the car was returned to our customer, and the team were able to get on with other repairs.”

Mick explains. The workshop also utilises industry associations such as the Independent Garage Association (IGA) for guidance on everyday garage life. “We utilise the IGA all of the time – they are amazing,” says Mick. “Through our membership, we were able to recently access subsidised training which was extremely helpful in getting our staff up skilled to Level 3 in Hybrid & EV maintenance and repair. This ensures we can keep up with the demand that the EV boom is currently generating in the
workshop.”

Mick continues “The IGA are there for any support! For example, during COVID, they helped us get a reduction on our rates which we didn’t know we were entitled to. I’m not sure what we would have done without them as it was a financially difficult time.”

Independent garages such as Britannia are showcasing that success lies in Owners ensuring there is ample backend support available for their teams. The requirement for diagnostics, training, and general business guidance from the industry, is imperative for today’s modern workshop success, and its ability to withstand the toughest of times.

Mick concludes “Diagnostics, training and support from industry experts are the backbone to workshop growth. Anyone looking to achieve success should review their tech/support arsenal so they can achieve optimal success!”
